This archaeological site of the Upper Paleolithic has given its world famous people thanks to the discovery of the Lady of the cap, also called " Lady of Brassempouy " famous mammoth ivory figurine, carved for 25000 years. Today, Brassempouy presents his story in a new museum space : The House of hooded lady.

It was given by Henri Delporte, who was curator of the Museum of National Antiquities, Saint- Germain -en- Laye (78) and eminent prehistorian. Among all the Venus, is of course the oldest human portrait discovered : that's the Lady of Brassempouy, whose original is kept in the MAN.

When you come to visit the House of the Lady, may also venture into the world of our ancestors, down to the Garden of the Lady, which can be learned with pleasure the crafts and techniques of prehistoric flint as carving or hunting.
Other times also left their mark on this charming village, particularly the Middle Age. This is the case of the building of the borough that comes from this time. This is organized in town street : the houses are lined up around a main road bordered on one side by the castle (which is now the nineteenth century), and the other by the church. The church is a jewel of Brassempouy. It was built in Roman style but knew major changes in the XV and XVI. Today, it takes part of the Historical Monuments of France. The recent works of restoration have brought it all the splendor of past centuries.
